The 21st Century human being is obsessed with her body and looks. We are inundated with photographs and videos of perfect bodies, expensively dressed and donning exquisite maquillage. The pressure to look flawless kept gnawing away at my happiness as a teen and later on as a young adult trying to find her feet in the world. All my artistic and academic achievements paled to insignificance as I fought to overcome my “failings” – dark skin and a Rubenesque body. 

Older and wiser, now, I embarked on this series to bid farewell to that insecure young woman. These cyanotypes mark my transition into a woman confident of my body, my desirability and my sensuality. The white silhouettes emerging from the cyan-blue background in this medium, quintessentially evoke my metamorphosis. The leaves, petals , twigs and corals found in nature co-located with my naked body represent the splendour and grandeur of biology. 

Evolution is an unmerciful process, every living thing we see today is the culmination of this process spread over billions of years. This series is also a shoutout to this wondrous process, for the incredible beauty that it has bestowed upon us, both with and outside.  I feel myself drifting into a paradise of tranquility, free of shackles of conventional norms of beauty.
